# Dated notes beside AP24 The Residual — issued 12 September 2026

**The 420 Code · Studio G · a supersession note; the frozen file is never edited**

AP24 (*The Residual*, Unification, Notebook IV) is published at
[the420code.org/AP24_The_Residual.pdf](/AP24_The_Residual.pdf), 34 pages,
sha256 `3a052367dbbe520415754aff7054c7993f02eebc36074dd7c7907cfbf85b196d`.
Four matters of record have arisen, on §4.1, on §5.3 and §5.5, on §5.6, and on §5.4.
**None alters the body of the paper, and the paper is not edited.** AP24 is non-load-bearing by its
own statement: if it is entirely wrong, every prior Artist’s Proof is unaffected.

## 1 — §4.1, the overdetermined system (SUBSTANTIAL)

> 12 September 2026, on §4.1. The sentence **“If the system is consistent, it has at most one
> solution” is withdrawn.** §3.1 is right that the displayed relations are dictionary entries;
> dictionary entries constrain nothing. For any positive q one may define ε₀(q) = e²/4πℏcq,
> κ(q) = G(q)mₑ²/2 and G(q) = q²¹(1 + 1/π)/(1 + q) · ℏc/mₑ², and every displayed relation holds — a
> continuous family, not one solution. §4.4 and D1 already carry the correct status: the fixed-point
> equation is **defined and not constructed**, and selection needs a law, not a translation.
>
> Found in review by a panel of AI models, 12 September 2026; verified against the PDF of record.

**Grade.** SUBSTANTIAL. The conjecture of a unique fixed point stands as a conjecture, which is what
§4.4 and D1 already said it was; what is withdrawn is the claim that consistency alone delivers
uniqueness.

## 2 — §5.3, §5.5 and the Artist’s Note, the arithmetic of α (MINOR)

> 12 September 2026, on §5.3 and §5.5. **“Generically” does not license “necessarily”:** a
> transcendental return map with a unique stable fixed point can land on a rational —
> f(x) = r + ½ sin(x − r) is a contraction on [0, 1] with fixed point r for any rational r. The word
> **“necessarily” is withdrawn** from §5.5 and the Artist’s Note; §5.3’s structural argument (the now
> cannot be pinned) stands as interpretation, and its mathematical confirmation is withdrawn as a
> proof. **The arithmetic nature of α is open.** AP40 The Irrational is unaffected: its claim is
> structural imbalance, not number theory.

**Grade.** MINOR, not load-bearing.

## 3 — §5.6, the toy model (MINOR, non-load-bearing and marked so)

> 12 September 2026, on §5.6. With the formula as written and its stated inputs, b = 4/3 and
> ln(m_P/mₑ) = 51.5 give **1/11.9, not 1/23** — a factor of two slipped between ln μ and ln μ².
> b_eff = 26.7 gives **1/220, not 1/137**; the coefficient that would give 137 is **16.6**, which is
> not the Standard Model’s. And the boundary condition α(m_P) = 1 is contradicted by the Standard
> Model’s own running, which places α near 1/50 to 1/100 at the Planck scale. The sentence **“The
> mechanism works” is withdrawn.** The toy model remains non-load-bearing; Path 1 as posed fails on
> B2, conflict with established theory, before it starts.

**Grade.** MINOR. The paper marks §5.6 non-load-bearing and the note does not change that; the
arithmetic is recomputed and stated because a reader checking it would find the same thing.

## 4 — §5.4, the scope of “from within” (RULED)

> 12 September 2026, on §5.4. Two things are recorded beside the section, **which stands.**
>
> First, **the author’s ruling of 12 September 2026:** §5.4 forbids reading the coupling from a
> window — the pupil cannot read itself. The coupling read edge-on, from the neck, is a shape of the
> glass that holds the windows — the neck’s aperture against the rope’s length — a held quality, not
> the act of writing; the glass can be read.
>
> Second, **the panel’s logical point, recorded without ruling on it:** the argument of §5.4 does not
> by itself establish nonderivability even from within, since describing a law is not the same
> operation as recording an instantaneous state, and solving an axiom-derived equation is part of a
> derivation.
>
> The two are compatible: §5.4’s “from without” names a normalisation, a spectrum or a boundary
> condition, and **none has been supplied.**

**Grade.** RULED on scope. The corpus’s position is unchanged: one measured input, because the pupil
cannot see the pupil.

**A forward reference, marked as one.** The author’s ruling above is the reading that a paper in
preparation — AP54 — is written to carry. That paper is **not locked and not published**, so nothing
here rests on it and nothing here can be checked against it. When it locks, this note is paired with
it and the loci are named. Until then the ruling stands on its own words, dated.

## Why these notes are beside the paper and not inside it

No source of record exists for AP24: the closest candidate file differs from the published text, as
recorded in `SOURCE_OF_RECORD.md` in this folder. Until a matching source is produced the published
PDF is the source, and the republish procedure that places a note *inside* a paper is not available
to it. The notes therefore stand beside the paper, linked from its row on Ø Proofs.

The reviewer’s copy of AP24 and the file of record are the same document in two formats: the
candidate `AP24_The_Residual_v2.docx` and its own PDF export, which is the PDF served above. Every
locus quoted in these four notes was checked, character for character, in that served PDF before the
notes were booked.

*Frozen files are never edited; corrections supersede, dated, in the open.*
