The grades
Every section graded. Every dependency named.
section 0 (Dependency and Scope). Contract with the reader. Dependencies named (axiom as primitive; AP40 as the prior chapter in Notebook I; AP43 as structural dual; the Ø Models companions). Axiom mapping across S, B, R, C. Epistemic status per section. Twenty-four kill switches summarised. No outstanding structural debts. Three items held open without claiming debt status. Structural relationships to AP07, AP08, AP25, AP43, and the Ø Models companions named.
Paper 0 (Foundations). NARRATIVE. The structural story that motivated the work — nothing becomes structure; structure once written cannot be unwritten; the loop runs at the actualising now. Explicitly non-load-bearing. The four formal Papers stand or fall on their own logic, independent of the narrative.
Paper A (Actualization State: An Operational Measure of Record-Structured Irreversibility). DEFINITION + DERIVATION. Five core definitions (D1–D5). Theorem T1 (monotonicity of AS under decohering dynamics) with rate corollary T1a and converse T1b. Theorem T2 (operator horizon — no-return as an inequality). No-return surfaces and operational irreversibility (D6–D10, P3.3). Quantum-mechanical instantiation (D11–D16, postulate P, postulate G, P4.1). Seven falsifiers: F0 (global, KS-V.1), F1–F3 (selection postulate, KS-V.2–V.4), G1–G3 (gravitational, KS-V.5–V.7). Optional turn module (A6) and appendices.
Paper B (Selection as Irreversible Exclusion). STRUCTURAL DERIVATION. Definiteness reframed as operational individual-realization status. Nonlinearity requirement and selection cost made operational (δ_sel formalised in B2.3, B2.4). Six structural requirements on selection dynamics (B3.1–B3.6). Universal rate constraints with gravity as candidate limiter (B4). Five experimental regimes (BT1–BT5). Kill switch B2 (KS-V.8) on pre-irreversibility selection. Programmatic closure: no further progress on selection can be made by argument alone; the remaining uncertainty is empirical.
Paper C (Agency as Constrained Control). DEFINITION + DERIVATION. Agency as operator-relative ratio of reachable-within-viability to viability (C1). Control authority approaching zero at no-return surfaces. Drift under irreversibility (C2). Necessary conditions for agency preservation (C3). No-return geometry within a realised sector (C4). Control budgets and fatigue (C5 with theorem C5.1). Noise and silence (C6). Coupling and rescue (C7). Slack and robustness (C8). Exit as control outcome (C9). Falsifiers FC1–FC5 (KS-V.9–V.13). Structural closure with experimental instantiation (bacterial chemotaxis, autonomous robotic navigation).
Paper D (Coupled Viability). DEFINITION + DERIVATION. Shared constraint environments with Geometric Exclusion Principle (D1.3). Composition of agency: non-additivity, impedance matching, anti-resonance (D2). Stable configurations under drift with necessary (D3.2a) and sufficient (D3.2b) conditions; cascade failure (D3.3). Emergent order without design: structural filtering (D4.2), hierarchy (D4.3), cooperation and deterrence as geometric outcomes (D4.4). Eleven falsifiers FD0–FD4.4b (KS-V.14–V.24). Structural closure with worked examples and Appendix E flagged as exploratory and non-load-bearing.
section 6 (Kill Switches). FORMAL FALSIFICATION REGISTER. KS-V.1 (global kill switch on AS operational invariance, LIVE — EMPIRICAL). KS-V.2–V.4 (selection postulate, LIVE — EMPIRICAL). KS-V.5–V.7 (gravitational rate limiter, LIVE — EMPIRICAL). KS-V.8 (pre-irreversibility selection, LIVE — EMPIRICAL). KS-V.9–V.13 (agency apparatus, LIVE — EMPIRICAL). KS-V.14–V.24 (coupled-viability apparatus, LIVE — EMPIRICAL). Each kill switch in Claim · Test · Status · Recovery form. Legacy labels F0/F1–F3/G1–G3/B2/FC1–FC5/FD0–FD4.4b annotated at first mention.
section 7 (What This Establishes and What Remains Open). SYNTHESIS. Four operational quantities installed. No structural debts outstanding. Three items held open without claiming debt status (coupling parameter first-principles derivations, relativistic extension of the gravitational rate bound, multipartite operator dynamics). Philosophical-register companions named: Dissolutions Chapter 12 (Measurement Problem), Dissolutions Chapter 6 (Other Minds), Dissolutions Chapter 7 (Free Will and Determinism — freedom-under-constraint), Resolutions Chapter 8.5 (Choice — both locked formulations), Resolutions Chapter 10 (Other Intelligences — four operator-hood conditions). Placement in The 420 Code: Chapter 2 of Notebook I — The Premise.
The axiom 1:1 + 1×ε @ AS as primitive (foundational to The 420 Code; no upstream paper required for AP01’s own work).
The axioms {S, B, R, C} (formal statement carried at AP20 section 3.3; completeness and minimality obligations fenced at KS-P.1/KS-P.2). Load-bearing for every derivation in Papers A through D.
AP40 (The Irrational — the prior chapter in Notebook I, examining the structural character of the axiom; not load-bearing for AP01’s derivations but named for completeness).
Standard tools: dephasing maps and decoherence dynamics (open quantum systems); doubly stochastic operations (Schur–Horn); viability theory (Aubin’s reach-and-kernel formalism); control theory (admissible control and control budgets); Gleason-type non-contextuality (invoked in Paper B’s boundary condition; formally derived in AP25).
AP07 (The Record Measure) — inherits Paper A’s record-algebra coarse-graining.
AP08 (The Identity — Einstein Field Equations) — inherits Paper A’s irreversibility theorems.
AP25 (The Measure) — inherits Paper A’s coarse-graining apparatus and dephased-entropy structure.
AP43 (The Gravity of Possibilities) — inherits AS as the records-side anchor and develops the structural dual on the pre-state side.
Every derivational paper in Notebooks II through VIII inherits operational vocabulary from one of the four Papers here.
The Ø Models catalogue’s philosophical-register treatments of measurement (Dissolutions Chapter 12), other minds (Dissolutions Chapter 6), free will and determinism (Dissolutions Chapter 7), choice (Resolutions Chapter 8.5), and other intelligences (Resolutions Chapter 10) stand on this paper’s apparatus.
None explicitly closed. This paper opens twenty-four new kill switches (KS-V.1 through KS-V.24) and does not retire any prior kill switches in The 420 Code.
KS-V.1 through KS-V.24. See section 6 for the full register with Claim, Test, Status, and Recovery for each.
None outstanding from this paper.
First-principles derivation of the coupling parameters in Papers C and D (control budget B₀, cost function c(u), impedance Z_i, resonance phase). Parameterised in the structural account; physical instantiations open work for domain experts.
Full relativistic extension of Paper A’s quantum-mechanical instantiation, including the relativistic form of the gravitational rate bound and the no-return surface in curved spacetime. Sketched only; open work for AP08 and the future relativistic-field-equation paper.
Structural status of multipartite operator dynamics — operations between three or more operators reading each other’s slopes simultaneously in shared viability domains. Paper D treats binary and chained couplings; higher-order dynamics inherit AP43’s four-term system and are future work in The 420 Code.
