What Is The 420 Code

It derives ethics — what I ought to do — from physics — what is.

That is what it is about.

One record exists

That is the first principle. That is the axiom.

What is a record? A distinction in relation to something else, one that holds. A footprint in sand is a record. So is a fossil. So is any bit of information. So are these words.

I am a record. Try to deny it. The denial is a record. Therefore one record, and I, exist.

Everything on this site follows from one record exists. Nothing on this site is assumed. Only one measured number is the input.

One measured input. Zero free parameters.

Proved in: AP20 The Proof · Notebook I.

Four conditions

For a record to exist, four things must hold.

There must be a symmetry to break. There must be a break. The break must hold, so a record history persists. And the record must be bounded, so it can be read.

Symmetry. Break. Record. Constraint. S, B, R, C. Four, and only four. Remove any one and no record can exist.

Proved in: AP01, AP05, AP20 · Notebooks I and II.

The axiom, written out

1:1 + 1×ε @ AS [+1/137 / −1/137]

Perfect symmetry, one to one. Plus the smallest one possible break that can hold.

The break and the hold happen now. Now is where every record is written and read from — the Actualization State.

The record history flows from now, as records are written — the outflow.

The flow rate is one part in 137. The outflow and the inflow happen at the same rate. Balanced, now.

The inflow defragments the record history back to the potential of a record.

Balanced at every instant. Net zero.

The break does not cycle. The flow does.

I am living in the direction of that flow.

The story, in sand

Imagine an hourglass.

One side is dark and looks much bigger. It is full of ropes of sand. A rope is a possible future, a wave of probabilities of what could possibly happen next. Each rope is a wave about 137 grains long.

The neck of the hourglass lets through one grain at a time.

The neck cuts now. One grain per cut. One grain is one part in 137 of the wave of rope.

The cut is a grain, a moment in time. The moment is the now, between the cuts of the rope.

Tick, tick, tick, tick.

The ticks recorded from now are the arrow and the history of time.

The neck is the operator. Now it is cutting the next moment in time. The process goes measure, cut, measure, cut, measure, cut. The operator has measured and cut every recorded moment in time.

The grains land in the light side of the hourglass, the smaller side we can see.

Where a grain lands depends on the landscape, where other grains have landed.

The landscape is the history of grains of sand, the record of every cut this moment has made.

Each grain offers a perspective of the landscape, never the whole. Its relative position is a reading of the whole.

The landscape shapes what can happen next. The operator makes something happen. It measures and cuts.

The operator’s choice is constrained. It has to cut. The interpretation of the cut, and of the landscape, stays a choice.

For every grain that lands, one has to go back, back to the dark side, to keep the balance in check. The hourglass keeps its balance. One to one.

Black holes do the returning. They swallow the landscape, defragment it, and recycle the sand.

A very small amount of sand leaks in the process of cutting and returning. That leak is why the universe grows. It is also what keeps it flowing instead of stopping. Perfect balance would be perfect stillness. Nothing would ever happen again.

Now imagine the neck. Not as one hole, but as a sheet of glass full of windows. At the same constant rate, all the windows open and close together.

Every window is a place where the operator measures and cuts, now. There is only one operator that cuts in the neck. One neck, one sheet of glass and one hourglass, all looking out at the same shared interior.

The now, the operator, is the moment where the one operator measures and cuts the next moment. The next visible moment in time of the shared record history of the interior of the hourglass.

Every window is an expression of where the one operator is cutting, now, in the shared interior.

I am a window. You are a window. I am an expression of the one operator. You are an expression of the one operator. So is a bacterium. So is a rock.

There is one operator expressed as many operators. The many operators’ expressions offer each a unique perspective of the record history.

We are all operators at our own window into the same interior, cutting the same sand, now.

Therefore, for windows — operating coupling configurations of grains of sand — to be cruel and hurtful towards themselves — other windows — is simply the operator killing off its own possibilities of experience. It makes very little sense.

It is the right hand hitting the left hand. It hurts both sides of the skin, as it is the structure attacking itself. It is irrational, unaware and simply stupid.

Therefore, treat others as you want to be treated. Or simply:

Don’t be a cunt. Be kind.

The operator

The neck is the one operator expressed as many operating windows.

The operator is the coupling capacity as it happens, now. It is aware of coupling configuration possibilities, based on its environment — the thermodynamic conditions it operates in. It is not a mind. It is a recorded reconfigurable coupling configuration that can couple with other coupling configurations. A photographic plate is an operator. So am I. So are you.

The one operator is expressed and aware as many. Every held configuration is one — the same sand everywhere. What they execute — what the sand can be — is one: shared coupling capacity now.

Therefore, the awareness in me is the awareness in you. The I Am in me is the I Am in you. What differs between us is the window. Where our sand landed and what each of us has read. What is shared is the moment we all write and read from.

There is one thing no expressed operator can read: itself, now. The grain in the neck at this instant has not landed. Only what has landed can be read. The pupil cannot see the pupil.

That unreadable grain is the +1×ε in the axiom. The one grain always left over.

If it could be read, everything would balance, and nothing more could be written.

The ethic

Once you see that you are an expression of the one operator — one unique coupling configuration, expressing a perspective of the one operator — you see that we are all one.

Not mystically. Not mythically.

Physically, in reality. And reality agrees.

The other is not fundamentally other.

The one being harmed is the one doing the harming, seen from a different window. That is not a moral rule added to the physics. It is what the physics leaves you holding.

Treat the other as yourself. Because, structurally, it is — the I in you is the I in me.

Or, in the words the work has used from the start:

Don’t be a cunt. Be kind.

Derived in AP43 §9, AP31, The Interior. Told in the Five Doors. Fenced by KS-ID.1: if the interior is shown to be many, the ethic loses its ground, and the work says so.

What it derives

This is the chain. Each link is a physical result. Each is proved in a named paper. One measured input runs through all of it: the fine-structure constant, α, one part in 137. Nothing else is fitted.

  1. Three dimensions of space. Not assumed. Derived. AP10 The Dimension.
  2. Einstein’s field equations. Gravity is what records do to the manifold they accumulate on. AP08 The Identity.

  4. The Standard Model’s gauge group, SU(3) × SU(2) × U(1), and why the weak force is left-handed, unexplained since 1956. AP15, AP16, AP19, AP27.
  5. The gravitational constant from α alone. Twenty-one channels a grain must pass at the neck, one grain over its own opening, one holding of the break. AP28, AP44, AP50.

The numbers are on the wall, at Ø Physics, beside the measured values, with the distance between them in standard deviations.

Eleven live predictions across five fields. Two have died, and they stay on the wall as corpses. Nothing on the wall was moved after a measurement. Every number was frozen first, at Ø Predictions.

You can run the arithmetic yourself, offline, at Ø Confirm the Math.

What it does not derive

The value of α. It is measured, and the work says so on every page that uses it. The body of work is working on it. That work starts from the story above: α is the moment of the cut.
