Lovelock’s theorem and the dimensional-count literature. References are sparse by design: the structural content of AP10 comes from the four axioms and their independence arguments (AP20 section 4.2, fenced at KS-P.2), not from the literature framework.
Lovelock’s theorem and the dimensional-count literature. References are sparse by design: the structural content of AP10 comes from the four axioms and their independence arguments (AP20 section 4.2, fenced at KS-P.2), not from the literature framework. The literature provides the formal vocabulary in which the structural facts are most naturally stated.
Lovelock, D. (1971). The Einstein tensor and its generalizations. Journal of Mathematical Physics 12, 498–501. The theorem invoked at section 6.2: in four spacetime dimensions (3+1), the unique divergence-free, symmetric, rank-2 tensor built from the metric and its first and second derivatives is G_μν + Λg_μν. With N = 3 derived in this paper, Lovelock’s theorem applies unconditionally to the manifold of the record algebra.
Lovelock, D. (1972). The four-dimensionality of space and the Einstein tensor. Journal of Mathematical Physics 13, 874–876. The dimensional uniqueness result that makes Lovelock’s theorem particularly powerful in 3+1 dimensions: the divergence-free symmetric rank-2 tensor is unique in N = 3 spatial dimensions in a way that is not preserved in higher-dimensional generalisations.
Kantowski, R., and Sachs, R. K. (1966). Some spatially homogeneous anisotropic relativistic cosmological models. Journal of Mathematical Physics 7, 443. The anisotropic cosmological geometries on which the dimensional structure derived here is realised; referenced for completeness with AP05’s junction formulation.
