Dependency and Scope

AP36 reads chemistry, the origin of life, and dependency as instances of the same geometry of interaction under {S, B, R, C}.

0.1 What this paper does

AP36 reads chemistry, the origin of life, and dependency as instances of the same geometry of interaction under {S, B, R, C}. Its scope is stated precisely and narrowly: it does not derive chemistry from first principles in the quantum-mechanical sense, and it does not derive the periodic table or quantum mechanics from the axioms. It derives the geometry — how coupled systems behave under constraint — and shows that chemistry, biology, and dependency exhibit it. Where it uses empirical facts (hydrothermal vents, autocatalysis, endocannabinoid systems), it cites them as empirical, not as consequences of the axioms.

0.2 Dependencies

AP01 (The Actualization State) supplies the viability geometry and the extraction analysis (input capture). AP02 (The Operator): the cell as a budget-limited operator with drift, corridor, sovereignty, and exit. AP06 (The Leakage Constant): ε as the irreducible reaction cost — no transformation is frictionless. AP20 (The Proof): conservation as unconditional in chemistry. AP34 (The Inversion): the endocannabinoid and serotonin systems as existing biological coupling channels. AP35 (The Ledger): toxic accumulation as the chemical Ledger executing an overdue audit.

0.3 Axiom mapping

Axiom S is potential — the pre-reaction state, reactants balanced; chemistry begins when S breaks. Axiom B is the reaction — the minimum chemical event, a bond formed or broken, each writing a record. Axiom R is the product — the irreversible result that accumulates, and, once self-referential, the record that writes more records. Axiom C is constraint — energy barriers, concentration limits, finite reagents — which here operates constructively: the surface and the membrane are constraint enabling coupling. Read chemically, 1:1 + 1×ε @ AS is the second law: every reaction leaks toward equilibrium.

0.4 Epistemic status per section

Epistemic status per section. section 1 (statement): derived. section 2 (axiom mapping): derived. section 3 (gradient): derived + empirical. section 4 (surface): derived + empirical. section 5 (circle): derived — autocatalysis probability is Debt 37. section 6 (threshold): derived. section 7 (separation): derived — molecular implementation is empirical. section 8 (cell): derived. section 9 (feed): derived. section 10 (dependency): derived. section 11 (toxic accumulation): derived + empirical. section 12 (input capture): application. sections 13–14: synthesis.

0.5 Kill switch summary

Nine kill switches engage on this paper, all live. KS-36.1 (conservation in chemistry), KS-36.2 (surface necessity), KS-36.4 (autocatalysis), KS-36.5 (gradient dependency), and KS-36.7 (toxic accumulation) are empirical. KS-36.3 (threshold completeness), KS-36.6 (dependency irreversibility), KS-36.8 (input capture), and KS-36.9 (persistence mechanism) are structural. The simplest ways to destroy the paper are to show that life can create its own gradient, or that dependency is reversible without cost. Statuses follow the Master Kill Switch Registry.

0.6 Structural debts owed

The paper carries three debts. The autocatalysis probability: a formal derivation of the likelihood that an autocatalytic loop forms given known prebiotic conditions — if vanishingly small, KS-36.4 approaches firing (Debt 37). The dependency metric: a quantitative measure of coupling-path concentration and the irreversibility of accumulated directional records (Debt 38). The biological buffer capacity: how to measure a cell’s or organism’s remaining buffer before toxic accumulation forces an audit (Debt 39).

0.7 Items held open without claiming debt status

The axioms guarantee that autocatalysis, once it occurs, behaves as described, but not that it must occur on any given substrate within any given timescale — the inevitability question is owed under Debt 37. The specific molecular implementation of the instruction-machinery separation (RNA-first, protein-first, or co-evolution) is empirical and contested; the paper derives the structural requirement, not the implementation (KS-36.9 tracks this).

0.8 Structural relationships

AP36 closes Notebook VIII’s operator-domain triad: the body (AP37), the ledger (AP35), and the feed. It shares AP35’s buffer-overflow geometry exactly — toxic accumulation is an audit in the chemical substrate — and applies AP01’s extraction analysis to input infrastructure. With AP36 the 420 Code traces one continuous line from a single irreversible record through chemistry, biology, and dependency to the supply relationships that govern living systems, and Notebook VIII is complete.
