Section 8
Four switches engage on this paper. Statuses follow the Master Kill Switch Registry.
Kill switch numbers are globally unique across the body of work, up to two recorded collisions disambiguated by origin (KS-L.1–L.4, AP06/AP12; this paper’s KS-54 with AP23’s — renumbering candidate KS-68 at next rebind). This paper inherits KS-41 and introduces KS-51, KS-52, and KS-54. Note: the flat switches KS-41 (structure formation) and KS-42 (tension-field equation) are legacy single switches and are distinct from the dotted AP41.x and AP42.x switch families; the dotted labels do not denote sub-switches of KS-41 or KS-42.
Claim. The tension field reproduces cosmic structure formation — the cosmic web, the galaxy distribution — without cold dark matter.
Test. Reproduce the CMB acoustic peaks, the matter power spectrum P(k), and the BAO signal using only visible matter and Newtonian gravity, with no tension field. If that succeeds, nothing here is needed.
Status. LIVE — EMPIRICAL. Upgraded from untouched to structurally addressed: the mechanism is now derived, but the quantitative confrontation with CMB, P(k), and BAO data is not complete. This is the hardest empirical test in the 420 Code. If the tension field cannot reproduce the CMB acoustic peaks without cold dark matter, the mechanism fails.
Recovery. If the structural mechanism stands but the quantitative fit fails at specific scales, the failure narrows to those scales and identifies where the tension field diverges from ΛCDM — a located discrepancy, not a collapse of the mechanism. If the mechanism cannot be made to fit anywhere, the paper falls and the tension-field route to structure formation closes (D1 is the deliverable that decides this).
Claim. Gas in the cosmic web flows along tension filaments, not purely under gravitational free-fall toward mass concentrations.
Test. Gas velocity fields in the intergalactic medium should show coherent alignment along filament axes stronger than the gravitational potential of the visible matter alone predicts; the velocity dispersion perpendicular to a filament axis should be suppressed relative to the parallel component by more than a purely gravitational N-body simulation predicts.
Status. LIVE — EMPIRICAL. If gas kinematics in the intergalactic medium are fully explained by visible-matter gravitational dynamics with no residual coherent alignment along filaments, the mechanism is weakened.
Recovery. A null alignment result weakens the filament-as-tension-corridor reading without touching the energy-minimisation derivation (Propositions 1 and 2); the recovery is to treat the filaments as energy-minimising corridors whose gas-kinematic signature is below current detectability, and to specify the threshold at which the signature would appear.
Claim. Supermassive black holes form before or simultaneously with their host galaxies, as topological anchors at filament intersections.
Test. Establish observationally whether central black holes precede or follow their galaxies. Early JWST data is suggestive but not conclusive.
Status. LIVE — EMPIRICAL. If observation conclusively proves that galaxies form fully before their central black holes, the direct-vacuum derivation breaks.
Recovery. If the sequence is mixed (some anchors first, some galaxies first), the direct-vacuum mechanism narrows to the high-redshift, high-mass population it most naturally explains, and the late-forming black holes are read as conventional accretion — the mechanism survives as one channel among two rather than the universal one.
Claim. The tension field produces a multiply-connected filamentary network whose local junctions are Steiner (120°) vertices.
Test. Measured filament-junction angle statistics inconsistent with the 120° prediction, or a global topology requiring an acyclic tree.
Status. LIVE — EMPIRICAL. Label collision with AP23’s KS-54 — two distinct switches, disambiguated by origin; renumbering candidate KS-68 at next rebind.
Recovery. A failure localises to the junction model, not the energy-minimisation core.
