Artist’s Note

This is Artist’s Proof 21 of The 420 Code, a chapter of Notebook VI — Cosmology. It asks how the cosmic web got there. Look through a strong enough telescope and the galaxies are not scattered: they hang on filaments, cluster at nodes, and leave vast voids between. The standard model builds that web by pouring in cold dark matter — invisible particles that collapse first and dig the wells the gas falls into. This paper builds the same web without the particle.

The mechanism is already in the body of work. AP17 derived the tension field of ε between the fold and the propagation; AP18 derived the acceleration floor that field enforces. This paper takes that field to the largest scale. The vacuum, forced to close by Axiom S and AP06’s Leakage Theorem, is under global tension against the expansion. Tension stored in length wants to be short; the expansion forces it to be long. The compromise is a branching tree of shared corridors — filaments — because the minimum-length network connecting distributed matter is a Steiner tree, not a smear. Gas pools where the corridors cross, the fabric folds, and a primordial black hole drops a topological anchor that summons the galaxy around it.

What this paper establishes is the structural mechanism: no dark-matter particle is required because the structure is carried by the topology of the vacuum itself. What it does not yet establish is the quantitative confrontation — the CMB power spectrum, the matter power spectrum P(k), the baryon acoustic oscillation scale. Those are computational debts, not structural gaps, and the paper says so plainly. This is the hardest empirical test in the 420 Code, and the argument hands you the weapon to kill it.

Nothing here is imported. Every structural claim descends from the axioms {S, B, R, C} or from a prior Artist’s Proof that descends from them.

Orientation

Where this paper fits in the body of work

AP21 is a chapter of Notebook VI (Cosmology). It sits at the end of the structure-formation chain: AP06 (The Leakage Constant) forces field-line closure, AP17 (The Room) establishes the tension field and the galactic floor, AP18 (The Floor) derives the acceleration scale a₀ exactly. This paper applies that field at the cosmic scale and asks what it builds. It also draws on AP05 (Lorentzian spacetime), AP08 (Einstein’s field equations and substrate homogeneity), AP14 (the quantum-gravity correction), AP15 (substrate stiffness λ), and AP20 (the Embedding Hypothesis and Quantum-Record Alignment proved, AS = manifold).

How to read this paper

Two voices alternate as the material requires. The structural readings — the night sky, the cling film over the ball, the river carving the valley — speak directly. The formal sections — the Energy–Measure Bridge, the two propositions, their proofs, the Steiner-tree result — speak in the precision the mathematics requires, and are preserved verbatim. Where the gear changes, a formal label opens the block (Lemma, Proposition, Proof) and the box mark ■ closes the proof.

The kill switches

KS-41 — Structure formation

Claim. The tension field reproduces cosmic structure formation — the cosmic web, the galaxy distribution — without cold dark matter.

Test. Reproduce the CMB acoustic peaks, the matter power spectrum P(k), and the BAO signal using only visible matter and Newtonian gravity, with no tension field. If that succeeds, nothing here is needed.

KS-51 — Filament topology

Claim. Gas in the cosmic web flows along tension filaments, not purely under gravitational free-fall toward mass concentrations.

Test. Gas velocity fields in the intergalactic medium should show coherent alignment along filament axes stronger than the gravitational potential of the visible matter alone predicts; the velocity dispersion perpendicular to a filament axis should be suppressed relative to the parallel component by more than a purely gravitational N-body simulation predicts.

KS-52 — Primordial anchor sequence

Claim. Supermassive black holes form before or simultaneously with their host galaxies, as topological anchors at filament intersections.

Test. Establish observationally whether central black holes precede or follow their galaxies. Early JWST data is suggestive but not conclusive.

KS-54 — Web connectivity

Claim. The tension field produces a multiply-connected filamentary network whose local junctions are Steiner (120°) vertices.

Test. Measured filament-junction angle statistics inconsistent with the 120° prediction, or a global topology requiring an acyclic tree.

The debts

D1 (Quantitative confrontation). The effective Jeans mass under the tension floor, the linearised perturbation equations with the a₀ floor, and the resulting CMB power spectrum, matter power spectrum P(k), and BAO scale must be computed explicitly and compared to the ΛCDM prediction. [AP21-specific, load-bearing for the empirical claim]

D2 (Compactification threshold). The record density at which Axiom C forces a local fold (the formation of a direct vacuum) is not derived here. A future paper must derive it from {S, B, R, C} or flag it as a free parameter. [AP21-specific]

Dependencies. AP06 Theorem 3.1 (closure), AP05 (Lorentzian spacetime), AP08 (homogeneity, field equations), AP14 (quantum-gravity correction), AP15 (substrate stiffness λ), AP17 (the tension field), AP18 (the acceleration floor a₀; Lemma 1), AP20 (AS = manifold).
