Eighteen Held, Three Written

Eighteen held. Three written, by the same rule as the eighteen. The writing does not couple to time.

The hostile referee’s best line: three coordinates are an address, not three channels. Here is why they are channels. Here is why there are not four.

Claim. The eighteen are what the record holds after now: six readings held through three spatial dimensions. The picture has this count on its own: AP48 §1, the ropes — eighteen hold the landed grain, three guide the walk. A rope is a coupling of the grain to the landscape. Eighteen ropes are eighteen holdings, and each holding is a completed exchange (§5). Three guides are the three written. Four of them read the landed state. One reads the holding. One reads the record of the hold (§3). The three are what the writing needs: one coupling per independent spatial face of the landscape, at α. The writing does not couple to time. Time is the record of the hold. 6 × 3 + 3 = 21. Not 22.

Intuition. To be placed on the pile is not to be given coordinates. It is to be caught by the pile. To couple to it. The pile has three independent directions to be caught in. The click is not a fourth direction. The grain does not couple to the click. The grain is the click. Time is what the pile counts afterwards.

Givens. AP28 §3 and Proposition 2. AP10 §0.3 (S, B, C spatial; R time; the axes not fixed). AP20 §4.2 (the axioms independent). The author’s +3 ruling. AP49 §3 (the sixteen).

Theorem — placement is coupling. “Where a grain lands depends on the landscape of previous grains.” To be placed is to couple to the landscape. The landscape has three independent spatial faces: the exchange face, the break face, the propagation face. That is AP10 §0.3. It maps S, B and C to spatial faces and R to time. That correspondence stands. What AP47 §5 withdrew — “two earlier readings retire from the derivation chain, on the record … an identification of the four dimensions with the four conditions {S, B, R, C}” — was a claim that AP30 contained it. AP30 did not. The three faces are independent because the axioms are (AP20). One coupling per independent face. Each at α (§5). They count as channels of the same kind as the eighteen. Both are couplings of one grain to a dimension. The eighteen are held after now. The three are written now. A held grain carries all six faces. §3 says which operation each face reads.

Theorem — one rule for the three and the eighteen. The objection has a form the paper answers directly. It says placement is one coupling with three components, not three couplings. If that were right for the three, it would be right for the eighteen. A face through three dimensions would be one coupling with three components. The count would be six. It is not right for the eighteen. AP28’s Proposition 3 derives independent couplings from independent faces and independent dimensions. The corpus has stood on that count since AP28 locked. So it is not right for the three, by the same rule. The three stand with the eighteen. One rule: one coupling per independent face. Not a separate argument that can be called counting slots.

Ruling — why not four (the author). “The now reads 3 dimensions — and from now the arrow of time emerges.” “The hold is over 3 dimensions plus time — time is the record of the hold.” Time is not a face the now couples to. It is what the hold leaves behind. The record’s own measure of itself against other records. “Over time” is R’s condition on the record. A record that has not held over time is not measurable. It does not exist structurally. It is not a fourth coupling of the writing. The passage through the neck is the click. The writing does not couple to the click. It is the click.

Consistent with the sixteen. AP49’s 4 × (3 + 1) counts conditions of a record held through room and time. That is a count on the held. The +3 counts couplings of the writing across room. That is a count on the writing. Different objects. Both in the picture. Both counted once.

Grade. The not-four: Ruled and Derived. One coupling per independent face: the same identification as the eighteen. It stands with them.

Kill switches

KS-R.8b (AP28) — Fires if placement is shown to need a temporal coupling. Sharpened by dated note.

Connections. The three are couplings by §5’s necessity: no record without coupling. The sixteen and the twenty-one are two counts of two things (§3).

The grain does not couple to the click. The grain is the click.
