Section 8
§8 — The neck's reading as a scope ruling on AP24 §5.4. RULED.
AP24 §5.4 forbids the pupil reading itself, and it stands. Deriving is record-writing; α is the coupling of that act; you cannot measure the ruler with the ruler. This paper does not retract a word of it.
The window looks into the interior. The neck's view looks at the glass that holds the windows — the sheet, the arena, the held. The two perspectives are looking at different things: different qualities of the same reality, the same grain of sand. Read edge-on, α is a shape of the glass: the neck's aperture against the rope's length. A held quality, not the act of writing it. The glass can be read. That is the author's ruling, and the dated note on AP24 §5.4 carries it.
What the ruling buys, and what it does not. It answers the attack that a reading is a reading: the side view reads the held, not the now. The shape it reads is the shape as it is — the neck one grain wide by identity (AP50 §2), the rope 137 grains by the bracket — which is what α is. For the shape to be forced rather than read, the glass would have to fix the rope's length, and that is the second scale §10 says nobody has. The ruling and the paper's claim agree: this paper reads the shape; it does not force it.
